UPDATE 11-06-16: I added particle effects, so now defeated enemies/players turn into stardust. Also, the difficulty now increases as the game progresses.

In space, everybody can hear you drum.

Beat Nebula is a game for QaziJam8, which had no theme, so I restricted myself to a game that had a limited color palette (based on recently announced Pokémon Cosmog) and to make the game playable on the Donkey Konga bongo controller (which I later expanded to the Taiko Drum Master controller too). You can also play with a keyboard, but it's a lot more fun with a controller you can hit really hard.

Hit the drums to destroy the comets and dodge lasers. Get hit three times or fall off of your platform, and the universe will end. No pressure.

Code and art by TJ Cordes (me), and music by Tim Schrock. I might continue work on this game later on - I didn't have as much time as I would've liked to work on it this week, and I wanted to add a whole bunch of stuff, such as new enemies, particle effects, and an actual reason for you to do mid-air stomps.

Cool game! Love how this game actually use drum controller even I don't have it C:.

Also, a mode with a lot of enemies in the start? Wanted to shoot a lot of enemies more in the beginning. Also hope the drum player will drum like crazy shooting a lot of enemies in the start C:.

haha, this is rad. good unification of mechanics and aesthetics. it would be neat if the game sped up a bit over time, as things never seemed to get too dangerous.

Thanks - I made an update this afternoon that increases difficulty over time. Eventually, the enemies spawn twice as fast, and the warning time for lasers gets cut in half.

The enemies also explode into stardust now, but that doesn't really affect the difficulty one way or the other.
